The Dirty Bit Will Put Another #1 Hit Up For The Black Eyed Peas

Posted on 16:01 by Unknown
This song is going to be a massive hit single for the group. "The Time" is a monster and you can’t ignore the Dirty Dancing hook which is the entire reason the song will blow up. Girls and Tweens will be all over this single and the 30 somethings will jump aboard because of the familiarity. You can dislike it but you cannot deny it.

Mark Salling Misses The "Puck"

Posted on 20:52 by Unknown

The Glee cast member first out of the gate with an album is Mark Salling who plays Puck on the show. His album is devoid of all the characters charm with a classic rock meets British Invasion and psychedelic hippie music from the 70's. This should actually work in theory and never does anywhere on Pipe Dreams because of the lack in songwriting talent. This could have and should have been a great record considering how easy it would have been for him to get a helping hand from the industry right now. I would hope that when Naya Rivera (Santana) and Heather Morris (Britney) put their own albums out that they do what works for their characters on the show. This album has no highlights and so no songs will be listed for quick listening choices.

Artists That Should Stop Making Music

Posted on 13:42 by Unknown

So I was inspired by a story I read about paying certain people not to make music any longer and although their list was decent I had to make my own. So here is my top 20 that I wish would just go the hell away and never come back again musically or any other way.

Bleeker Ridge - Small Town Dead

Posted on 17:53 by Unknown

This album starts off with a grinding modern rock ear bleeder then follows that up with a second heaping helping of aggressive guitars and gritty rock vocals all pulled together with a ten ton stomp drum track setting the album up very nicely. The album takes a slight turn to more radio friendly territory with some mid-paced rockers and a couple of slower tunes but all still very good though. The bands mellow material is just as strong and at times stronger than the upbeat numbers. A couple of songs are weak and could have been tossed but more often than not this band really gets it right.

Song Highlights: Pick Me Up, Small Town Dead, You Would've Liked It, From Now On, Sick Of You & Bitter Soul

Sugarland - The Incredible Machine

Posted on 21:41 by Unknown

Well here we go again with a Sugarland album and what did the duo give us this time? They actually handed us more crap as they usually do on long players. The first single from the album "Stuck Like Glue" was a fun pop tune that really made me anticipate their upcoming album only to be set straight once again. I don't know what the twosome is thinking when they record an album other than hurry up lets get this done so we can go out on the road and make real money. Outside of the first single and a couple of others this album is a total wash. You can go to I-Tunes buy the two or three decent tracks and don't bother with the rest. Crap is crap and this new Sugarland is mostly crap. I am disappointed after the last couple of upbeat fun singles to have yet another adult contemporary album of goo. It all sounds rushed, unfocused and worst of all unpolished.

Song Highlights: Stuck Like Glue, Find The Beat Again & Every Girl Like Me

Doobie Brothers Just Walked In From 1975

Posted on 21:04 by Unknown

The brand new Doobie Brother's album is a welcomed return to form and it only completely sucks on one track which is the one track that the most horrid member of the bands career Michael McDonald is featured on. The bands classic sound is in fine form on most of the album that sounds so familiar you'd swear you've been listening to it for years. The songs run through the entire hit making career with nods to all aspects of their sound. This is one helluva a surprise for me and a pleasant one that is always welcomed. I love when a classic band can pull something this good off long after their heyday.

Song Highlights: World Gone Crazy, Young Man's Game, Nobody, My Baby & Law Dogs

Top 20 Fleetwood Mac Songs Of All-Time

Posted on 13:23 by Unknown
Considering Fleetwood Mac has been around for ages now and in many incarnations they found their most success with the addition of Stevie Nicks and the uber talented Lindsey Buckingham along with my preferred of the female vocalists Christine McVie. I am a fan of the blues version of the band in the early days that moved towards psychedelic soft rock before they became a household name more so than the popular version of the band.

20. Landslide
19. Shake Your Moneymaker
18. The Ghost
17. Over My Head
16. Seven Wonders
15. You Make Loving Fun
14. This Is The Rock
13. Everywhere
12. My Heart Beat Like A Hammer
11. Hi Ho Silver
10. Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
09. Second Hand News
08. The Way I Feel

Trapt - No Apologies

Posted on 12:39 by Unknown

Its been touted as their return to hard rock for Trapt and on the opening cut they are surely improved from that last album of human excrement. Now don't get me wrong this isn't spectacularly different for Trapt. It still sounds like them but the build quality of the songs are much better here. By the end of No Apologies nearly 45-minute run-time, the strength of the first few tracks can be forgotten due to the overall similarity of the complete package. The band do have some good rock songs on this platter and they deserve to be heard for sure. Don't dismiss this band for their poor alternative/emo stuff on the last two albums because this albeit similar is much higher in quality.

Song Highlights: Drama Queen, Get Up, End Of My Rope, Stranger In The Mirror, Are You With Me & Storyteller

New Medicine - Race You To The Bottom

Posted on 11:55 by Unknown

For an emo act they deliver the goods. The band have a mixture of emo and pop punk that blends nicely without being too overwrought. Much of their sound is inspired by bands like The Used, Fountains Of Wayne and My Chemical Romance with maybe latter day Good Charlotte tossed in for added effect. There really isn't a bad song on the whole record and considering how good each individual song is they should be the next big thing. In saying that a lot of great bands don't get to be the next big thing but here's to hoping.

Song Highlights: American Wasted, Rich Kids, End Of The World, Little Sister & It's A War

Finger Eleven Life Turns Electric

Posted on 11:37 by Unknown

Finger Eleven returns with a new album called Life Turns Electric which is their most cohesive set to date. The band have never put a good record out but always seem to have one or two songs which are solid hits and do them well. This time around they have released what is their best album so far and overall its a pretty good set of modern rock music. More than half the songs are good enough for radio play and the filler isn't awful this time around. The most positive thing about the new album is much of it is uptempo unlike their previous albums.

Song Highlights: Pieces Fit, Whatever Doesn't Kill Me, Good Intentions, Ordinary Life, Don't Look Down & Stone Soul

Ash Koley - Inventions

Posted on 11:25 by Unknown

I've had the opportunity to listen to this album and I have to say its a complete winner. Beginning to end the songs are well written, produced and performed. I enjoy the pop song structures with the imaginative arrangements within each track. They use subtle nuances to colour the music adding their own spin to their pop music separating it from the drab template that is common form on most current pop music in the mainstream.

Song highlights: Sheep In Wolves Clothing, Mary The Inventor, Apple Of My Eye, Brighter At Night & Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground

Steve Lee: A Beautiful Voice Silenced Far Too Soon

Posted on 16:44 by Unknown

Today I learned that Steve Lee of Gotthard was killed in a motorcycle accident. This is a very sad day in my world as Steve is and has been one of my favorite vocalists since I discovered the band he was a member of, Gotthard back in 2001. It's only been nine years since I first heard the band but in that time they have become one of my all-time favorite bands.

I can remember the first time I heard a sample of their music on MelodicRock.com I was blown away and fell in love immediately. The band did a cover version of a song I hold in high regard "Take It Easy" by Andy Taylor and that was all it took to make me a fan. Not only was their cover brilliant the album had many great songs. Homerun was a perfect name for the album because it was just that a homerun. Upon learning they had a fairly substantial back catalog I had to find it all and boy was it worth the hunt. Their debut album in 1992 was better than most of the famous hard rock and glam bands of the time but never jumped the Atlantic Ocean and made it to North America.

Steve Lee's voice can sing a hard rock tune to absolute perfection and then deliver a heartfelt and meaningful ballad like very few in the genre. His vocal ability is on a level with singers like David Coverdale or Noddy Holder who can rip it up on a live stage as well or better than in the studio. Very few vocalists could be so distinctive yet so versatile when they delivered a song. If you've not had the pleasure to hear Lee's raspy wail then do your ears a favor and crank up "Have A Little Faith" from 2003's Human Zoo. His brilliant vocal takes all that was great about studio recorded Robert Plant and Janis Joplin to create a sound that always sounds perfect. Also on the album Dial Hard is the best cover of a Beatles song which honestly it eclipses the original. Now that coming from me, a faithful believer that the Beatles are the greatest rock n' roll band off all-time is truly an honor.

The band have left a legacy with their catalog of music that rivals some of the greatest and most popular bands around the world. Acts like U2, ACDC, Judas Priest, Whitesnake & Kiss may have world wide fame and success but Gotthard and the voice of Steve Lee are easily as deserving and have just as high quality music and in some cases much better songs than some of those acts. Today with a very heavy heart and a tear in my eye I bid farewell to a man I've never met but have grown to love and respect. Steve Lee will forever have a place in my heart and always a song in my playlists.

Love, Soul, Matter R.I.P Mr. Steve Lee you will be missed forever.

Alter Bridge III

Posted on 14:34 by Unknown

My advance copy of AB III arrived today and on the opening cut this band sounds like they want to take the crown from the current groove metal kings Shinedown. The album opens with a heavy stomper called "Slip Into The Void" that has a killer instrumental break that reminds me of Black Sabbath in its fierceness. That heavy grinding power metal feeling continues on the next song "Isolation" which sounds even better when you crank the volume dial to the right. The bands radio friendly side rears its head on "Ghosts Of Days Gone By" which should garner some attention at modern rock radio around the world for sure. The song is good but not great which should do them very well considering how crappy the masses taste in music is right now.

The bands Creed sound is ever present on "All Hope Is Gone" which is one of the missteps on this album. It just sounds like a typical CCM song and without Scott's deep vocal to make the song affecting it just falls flat from the first verse. A more punchy mid-paced follow-up returns the sound back to what we expect Alter Bridge to sound like. The band stays pretty much in the middle ground between radio friendly modern rock and power ballad territory for the rest of the songs with varying degrees of success. The trouble here is that with the sameness of their production and guitar tones and such the album kinda loses my attention and begins to all become one song.

So this album could be better listened to as individual songs rather than one complete listen. The albums closing number "Words Darker Than Their Wings" is a good song that is worth checking out but from track five to track fourteen I'd be hard pressed to point out a standout song. Good listen but will better heard in small doses over the course of a mixed playlist on the I-Pood or a CD you burnt for the car. As I mentioned in the opening sentence they sounded like they wanted that crown but they didn't come close to matching Shinedown at all.
